I was blowing fuses in my folk’s home as early as I can member.
Drafting and Electronics kept me busy through my Jr. High & High School years.
I caught the entertainment bug during high school by working in the nightclub industry with local bands
In the 1980’s Baltimore Stage Lighting (RIP) hired me as a production technician. I cut my teeth do local events and national touring. I became the Draftsman / Production Manager during my 25 years working there. My responsibilities included scheduling shop prep and event labor, scheduling trucking and creating equipment pull list for events. I created Lighting Plots & Floor Plans to be used on the show site. I began using VectorWorks (Mini-Cad) when the software went cross platform with Version 7 in the 1990’s.I implemented the use of Vectorscript to automate many routines and procedures that I used on a regular basis.
When BSL was beginning to fail I moved onto Applied Acoustical Services DBA Event Tech in 2007. I was employed as the Draftsman to design and layout Staging, Audio, Lighting, & Video elements for events based on the clients requirements. I created floor plans, site plans, indoor and outdoor Staging construction drawings, lighting plots and 3D renderings for client and production technician use. It was also my responsibility to generate equipment pull lists and Lighting paperwork for the event utilizing Excel and Lightwright. I continued to develop VectorWorks Plug-ins, Commands and Tools to simplify and automate the work process using Vectorscript (the programming language of VectorWorks). I was also tasked to produce 3D venue files from dimensioned sketches, AutoCAD and PDF Imports.
In November of 2017 I took the plunge into the world of freelance still basically doing what I did previously. Keeping a draftsman on full time can be quite expensive for a small to medium sized company. I hope to help all companies (big to small) develop the necessary paperwork and images to help companies explain their intentions to both the techs and the clients to produce a successful event.
